Steps to Take When You’ve Lost Control of Your Facebook Business Page
When Facebook first launched business pages, who would have thought they’d be so crucial for businesses in 2017? Nowadays, these pages allow user check-ins, reviews, communication with potential customers, and advertising, making them an essential part of many marketing strategies.
But what if you suddenly can’t access your Facebook business page? If you’re managing your page as an admin, it’s natural to feel alarmed. Unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t provide clear guidance on what to do in this situation. There are really only two ways to fix it.
First off, it’s critical to avoid losing access to your business page. If you currently have access, protect it at all costs.
One common reason people lose access is being removed by another admin. To prevent this, be cautious about adding others as admins since they have the same control as you and can remove you at any time. Instead, assign other roles to employees or contractors that don’t require giving up admin privileges.
Another common way to lose access is losing access to your personal Facebook account. To prevent this, use two-factor authentication and backup security measures.
But if you’ve already lost access, the best and simplest case is if you’ve accidentally removed yourself as an admin, leaving your page without any admins. This typically happens either by clicking the wrong button in the Page Settings under Roles or if you deactivate your personal Facebook account and there are no other admins.
If your business page has no admins, you’ll see an “Unofficial Page” label under the cover image. Click “Is this your business?” and choose to either merge the page with an official verified business page or provide information to claim it. Merging requires matching information on both pages. Claiming and verifying the page will need you to provide a phone number or business ownership documents.
If there are other admins on your page and it’s a mistake that you were removed, contact them and explain the situation. They can add you back by going to the Page Settings and entering your email in the Roles section.
If you were removed intentionally, resolving the issue becomes more complex.
