Mastering LinkedIn’s Innovative Voice Messaging Tool
In the world of social media, LinkedIn isn’t usually seen as a top player. That spotlight tends to go to platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. LinkedIn, however, serves a specific purpose: it’s the place for professionals to connect and network within their industry.
Recently, LinkedIn added a new voice note feature to its messaging service. This allows users to send short audio messages to each other. The goal is to increase user engagement and encourage more conversations on the platform.
There are several benefits to this new voice messaging feature. Firstly, it’s more convenient to leave voice messages when you’re on the move. Instead of typing out messages on a tiny keyboard, you can simply speak into your phone. People generally speak faster than they type, especially on a mobile keyboard.
Additionally, text messages require careful word choice to convey tone, which can easily be misunderstood. With a voice message, it’s easier to communicate your intended tone. In today’s world, where many people prefer not to make phone calls, a voice note offers a way to have voice contact without actually calling.
To use voice messages on LinkedIn, start by opening the app on your mobile device. Tap the message icon at the top of the screen, then tap the pencil and paper icon to start a new message or select an existing conversation. Tap the microphone icon on your keyboard to begin. Another microphone icon will appear on the screen, which you’ll use to control your voice message. Hold down this icon to record your message and release it to send. If you decide not to send your recording, slide your finger away from the icon while still holding it down.
You can currently send voice messages only on the mobile app, but you can receive them both on the app and on the website. LinkedIn may add the ability to send voice messages from the website in future updates, but there’s no timeline for this yet.
