Effective Strategies for Maintaining a Pristine Email List
In 2023, I more than doubled my email open rates and click rates. The strategy I used is straightforward but often ignored: I cleaned my email list!
If your email list has low open rates, poor click rates, and high bounce rates, it’s time to act. Cleaning your list will help you reach a more engaged audience, leading to more leads.
Here’s why cleaning your email list is crucial and often undervalued in successful email marketing:
1. Not all subscribers on your list are the same. Some are highly engaged and eager for your content, while others might have lost interest or have inactive email accounts.
2. Identify telling signs that your list needs cleaning.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to cleaning your email list:
1. Identify subscribers who haven’t opened or clicked on your emails in the last 90 days. These are considered inactive and are prime candidates for cleaning. In ConvertKit, these are known as “Cold Subscribers.” I had 225 before sending this sweep email.
2. Segment your cold subscribers and add them to a re-engagement campaign. This campaign sends a series of emails asking if they want to continue receiving emails. Use persuasive subject lines, personalized content, and special offers if applicable.
– Email 1: Checking in and Offering a Choice
– Reach out to less active subscribers, acknowledging their decreased engagement. Reaffirm your commitment to providing valuable information and offer them the option to opt back in with a clickable link.
– Email 2: Reminding Them of Your Value
– Remind your subscribers of your value and how your content can help solve their issues. Offer a sneak peek at upcoming content to reignite their interest.
– Email 3: Saying Goodbye
– If there’s no re-engagement by this point, it’s time to let them go.
Monitor the results of your re-engagement campaign. You’ll be surprised how many people rejoin the list! If they come back, great! If not, you’ve improved your email metrics.
Cleaning your email list might seem daunting initially, but it’s essential for any email marketer aiming to boost engagement, open rates, and save money. It’s about creating a quality email list that values and interacts with your content.
So, don’t wait. Start cleaning your list now and enjoy the incredible benefits for your email marketing campaigns. Quality always beats quantity.
