Finding the Right Accountant for Your Blogging Needs

Finding the Right Accountant for Your Blogging Needs

If you’re a blogger, you might remember starting out with the hope that someone would read your posts. Initially, your audience was probably just family and friends. But over time, thanks to your networking, your blog grew. After a year or two, you might have even started earning a decent income. What began as a hobby slowly turned into a passion that also brought financial rewards. When your blog starts making money, it feels great, but that’s when you need to think about the tax implications. It’s smart to hire an accountant who knows about blogging finances.

Last summer, I looked for an accountant. One of them, after seeing my modest earnings, didn’t think my blog had much growth potential. She didn’t take the tax implications of my blogging income seriously. I found her attitude discouraging, especially since I wanted to grow my blog. So, I decided not to hire her. Finding the right accountant who understands and supports blogging income wasn’t easy.

This summer, I attended a bloggers’ conference where I met an accountant and a bookkeeper. They had experience working with a successful blogger and understood blogging income. Feeling encouraged, I hired them and have been very happy with my choice. Here’s what you should look for when hiring an accountant as a blogger:

Choose someone who understands the blogging world and its income potential. You don’t want someone who thinks blogging is just a passing trend.

Pick an accountant willing to find ways to increase your income. My bookkeeper went through all my records, found areas where my business could grow, and suggested expanding them. Unlike the first accountant, she saw the income potential in blogging and was eager to help it grow.

Make sure your accountant is available and responsive. You don’t want to wait a week or more to hear back. A large, busy firm might not be the best choice.

Many accountants still don’t fully appreciate how profitable blogging and online work can be. As a blogger, it’s crucial to find someone who not only understands your work but also believes in your earning potential and wants to help your business grow.

Bloggers, have you found it challenging to find an accountant willing to work with you?
