Why This Classic Tool Triumphs Over Modern Apps for Note Taking Every Time

I rely on apps for almost everything. Daily, I use cloud-based apps like Carbonite, Evernote, and Omnifocus to keep my work organized. For communication, navigation, and weather updates, I use various apps for email, texting, driving directions, and checking the weather. To stay healthy, I turn to fitness apps like FitnessBlender, Garmin Connect, and MyFitnessPal. I also use apps for time management, banking, social media, my everyday lifestyle, and entertainment. I absolutely love apps, and I bet you do too.

However, there are times when I have to go back to basics. While there might be an app for almost everything now, they don’t always meet my needs. Note-taking, for instance, is one area where I prefer the traditional approach. In meetings, using a pen and paper is simply more efficient for me. Despite trying numerous note-taking apps, nothing enhances my productivity like a reliable notebook and a good pen.

I’ve been a devoted Moleskine user for years. Recently, I got to test some samples from the new Moleskine Pro Collection series. With its high-quality binding, variety of page types, and durability, Moleskine stands out among notebooks. If you haven’t used a Moleskine yet, I’d recommend checking them out for their countless benefits.

This new series includes several features that have boosted my note-taking efficiency. Here’s how I use the Moleskine Pro: I jot down notes during meetings in real time. Then, I use the detachable to-do list and sticky notes to highlight key tasks I need to follow up on. At the end of the day, I transfer these reminders and to-dos into my apps for organized action. So yes, it does eventually get back to using an app, but it all begins with a great notebook. It’s the perfect blend of traditional tools and modern technology.

What do you prefer for note-taking? A notebook or an app?
