Mastering LinkedIn’s Innovative Voice Messaging Tool
In the world of social media, LinkedIn isn’t usually seen as a rival to giants like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Instead, LinkedIn focuses on a specific niche: connecting professionals and fostering business relationships. It remains the go-to platform for networking within your industry and connecting with potential collaborators.
Recently, LinkedIn rolled out a new voice note feature for its messaging service. This allows users to send short audio messages to each other, aiming to boost engagement and encourage more interaction on the platform.
There are several benefits to this new voice messaging feature. For one, it’s more convenient to leave a voice message when you’re on the move. Instead of typing on a small keyboard, you can simply speak into your phone. Most people can talk faster than they can type, especially on a mobile device.
Writing messages also requires careful word choice to ensure the right tone, which can easily be misunderstood in text. Voice messages let you convey your tone more clearly. Additionally, many people today avoid phone calls, so a voice note can provide that personal touch without the need to make an actual call.
To start using this feature, open the LinkedIn app on your mobile device. Tap the message icon at the top, then the pencil and paper icon to start a new message or pick an existing conversation. Tap the microphone icon on your keyboard, then hold down the microphone icon that appears on the screen to record your message. You’ll see a timer counting the seconds as you record. Release your finger to send the message, or slide your finger away to cancel if you don’t want to send it. To listen to a received voice message, tap the play icon.
Currently, you can only send voice messages through the mobile app, though you can listen to them on both the app and the website. LinkedIn might eventually allow sending voice messages on the website, but no timeline has been announced for this update.
