The average American spends about 42 minutes a day shopping, but only about 35 minutes on social interactions. This information comes from the annual “American Time Use Survey” by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which looks at how people over the age of 15 spend their time.
Interestingly, people tend to socialize more on weekends and holidays. While shopping time goes up to 50 minutes on these days, time spent socializing increases to 62 minutes.
In contrast, much less time is dedicated to sports, exercise, and volunteering. On average, Americans spend just 18 minutes a day on sports and other recreational activities, and only 9 minutes on volunteering.
