South Dakota’s Historic Ghost Town Hits the Market

Interested in owning a six-acre haunted town? Swett, located 123 miles from Rapid City and near the Nebraska border, is up for sale for $250,000. This so-called “ghost town” comes with a house said to be haunted, a garage/workshop, and a bar called Swett Tavern, which even has a stage and party room. The town used to have its own post office, but that shut down in 1945.

Swett first hit the market in the summer of 2014 with a price tag of $399,000. For context, the median price of a home in the U.S. is $229,000, according to the National Association of Realtors. In South Dakota, home prices have gone up by 15% over the past year, with the average price now at $172,700, based on Zillow’s data.
