Earlier this year, Donald Trump caused a stir with his negative remarks about Mexican immigrants, affecting the Miss Universe Pageant. In reaction, he bought NBCUniversal’s share of the pageant, gaining full control. Trump announced on Twitter that he now owns the entire Miss Universe Organization and has settled all legal issues with NBC.
An NBCUniversal representative confirmed that Trump had acquired their share and that all legal matters were resolved.
Given that the Miss Universe brand has been losing popularity in many Spanish-speaking countries, Trump likely didn’t spend much to buy the remaining share. For example, Miss Mexico pulled out of this year’s pageant because of Trump’s comments on immigration.
The next question is whether Trump can revive the Miss Universe brand. As with many things involving Trump, we can’t rule out the possibility of him turning the situation to his advantage.
