Graduation is just around the corner, but many graduates don’t worry about student loan repayments right away because there’s a six-month deferment period. However, those six months can go by quickly, and loan payments will start before you know it.

Interestingly, more than one-fifth of people miss their very first student loan payment, according to Mark Kantrowitz, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Edvisors.com. The reason isn’t that they don’t want to pay, but often because they simply forget. Life events like moving to a new place, starting a new job, needing a new wardrobe, or furnishing an apartment can push student loan payments out of mind.
